Hi, this is Andre, the original builder of the MCC website.
I notice now that something has made it break, and that's not looking good for my resume.
So, I'm willing to redo the site and put a new system up there, which should hopefully be a lot easier to update. I can add a forum there, and possibly have a page for each team, match info and so on.
I can add support for multiple user levels, so you can have the administrators do all the news posting, moderators to only do team related stuff, and regular users who can log in to post on the forum.
I'd like to hear what you think. Got any suggestions, things to add, better ways to do things?
Yep I most certainly agree that we should update the website. If DRE is happy to do it - go for it. The club needs to have up-to-date info and needs to be easily contactable. Show the world what a fun club MCC is. Post those photos, awards, etc.
DRE - what is there atm is an embarassment to our club so your offer is timely and greatly appreciated. Its not really broken atm, just bereft of any current content - its actually got a functioning photo gallery too - but I reckon if we could link this forum or relocate it that would be the key to making it a vibrant site. If someone like you with the tech skills gets it rolling, I and many others would no doubt be willing to contribute the content on a regular basis.

Dre if you could have a look at www.warrandytecc.com that is one of the best iv seen if we could get something started with the vision to being as information packed as that it would be awesome
not sure if anyone else knows of a good site

Okay, I've been working on getting a test site up on the server. you can visit it at
www.montrosecricketclub.com/test
anyone can log in with the following details: User: tester Password: tester
Have a look around and try playing with things and adding items. Add players, news items, opponents, venues, teams, photo galleries and post in the forum. Tell me what you think. Don't worry about deleting or destroying the site, I've locked this account down to be as simple as possible so no one gets overwhelmed.
I wouldn't have a clue how to import match data but it's something I might look towards in the future. This whole site is very experimental at the moment, so please put up with changes at any moment. So far I'm trying to redo the functionality of the previous site under a new system. This system is more robust than my custom code that made the last site, and should be a bit more industrial strength.
The site is designed to have 2 or more different types of users. The first type of user is the normal regular user. These people can post and reply on the forum, post their own photo galleries up on the site, and add comments to things like club news articles and club event notices.
The second type of user is the moderator. These people can do the things the regulars can do, but can also make changes to peoples' posts, like forum topics, comments and galleries, but also have the task of maintaining the database of teams, players and matches.
I've created a regular user account so you can see what they can do. User: regular password: regular
Unfortunately i don't think you'll be able to transfer this forum over, you'll just have to start again with the forum and users.
The site design is not my priority at the moment, getting a functioning system that meets your needs is.
Is it easy maintaining the match schedule? I apologise for not putting out the details for doing so before, but here they are at the moment.
1. Create an entry for a season (08/09 should be there already)
2. Create a team, and: a) choose what season that team belongs to b) choose the grade the team is in
3. Choose players that are in the team (not really necessary but may be good for team selection. Otherwise, do team selection in the upcoming game's match entry.)
4. Create a match.: a) Make sure the opponent you are playing is in the opponent list. if not, add them. b) Make sure the venue you are playing at is in the Venues list. if not, add them. c) Name the round (Round 1, semi-final, etc) d) Choose the team that is playing the match e) Choose the opponent you are playing. f) Add the date and time the match will be played. g) Add the players that are playing in the match
All of these things are accessed through the Add Items menu on the left sidebar of the site. I just added Wolf of the Week, so you can try creating a report like that too.
The other menu, Add Community Items, is for adding non match related things, like photo galleries, news, events and pages to the site.
I don't know how able i am to get fully functioning stats working. I did find this system though http://mycricket.cricket.com.au/ but I'm sure it costs a lot of money.
as far as the matches and ladders etc the best thing to do is link to the rdca sporting pulse website ill find out how the easiest way to do it via tim court.

Alright, so the upcoming functions thing is already sorted.
How would you want to do the awards and put the stats up onto the site? As in the actual process of assigning awards? And it looks like you want to have match statistics. How would you want to put them in?
Do you want the past players to fill out a form, or just give them contact details?
a section for each with sub sections for each senior and junior grade
wickets runs fielding partnerships games life members page with a bio of each club champ and runner up for each grade best finals player laurie db club person jnr and senior
office bearers captains coach's be great for past players to fill out form with contacts and team mates they are still in contact with

Ok Wolfie, I saw that you added a page with the Laurie Bentley Memorial Trophy stuff. Now, a page is just a static page of text, like the "about us" page you need to be able to make a menu entry for it or no one will be able to see it.
I saw what you were trying to do and so i've made a new content type called "Laurie". Using this, choose a season, choose a player that's already in the database (typing a couple of letters will bring up some player name matches). Then you can type in the amount of wickets taken. If you click on the Laurie page in the menu, you will be able to see a table of all the winners, and because this is linked to the players in the database, their photos will show up if they are available.
If i can make a suggestion for the new website its that we could add a junior Wolf of the week for the future seasons? It could be a good way to encourage the juniors to use the website and also its always great for the kids to get awards for good perfomances.
redoing all the trophies will be alot of work I have them all on word docs is there a way we can just ad those pages with a photo of the trophy? the player profile page was where i wanted a photo and a list of trophy wins and other achievements.

It is possible to just cut and paste a word document page for all the awards, but if you want each award to appear on the player's page, then you have to add each award individually. This way, though, you only need to add an award once. This will then appear on the player's individual page, as well as a page featuring all the awardees.
