Round 9

1st XI vs Bayswater Park

Not sure about the toss but as i arrived we were warming up to bowl. Had a very dissapointing warm up and none of us looked switched on. The game began with a few tight overs from Crowe and Dewy and then in the 3rd over crowe got the break through. Next over came and before you new it the score was 2/7. From there we let them off the hook a bit with them building a partnership. However it wasnt long until Wellington and Rogers came into the attack and showed Bayswater Park what Montrose were about. If we got 1 we got 2 and we were right back in the game with Rogers and Wellington snaring 1 each. Edwards made something out of nothing with a very special run out which set us up to smash their lower order. Mirams took a very good catch out in the deep and then doubled up on the boundry again. Bowled Bayswater Park scum out for 138 and looked to have the upper hand at tea. Great bit of bowling from Marshall and all of the bowlers but not the best performance that Montrose has made.

Wellington and Podesta were sent out to open for us and it didnt go to plan. 2nd bowl of the game Wellington was bowled leg stump. Things went down hill real quick as montrose were 4/13. Edwards and Gardam were out in the middle and had to try and establish a fight back and a fight back was what they produced. They took the score to 120 odd. Edwards was looking the goods until a slower delivery got the better of him as he departed on 49. Well batted. Soon after Gardam was clean bowled as he made an impressive 45. Another quick wicket fell and Baywater Park had a chance. Rogers pilled on a few but couldnt hang around to hit the winning runs. Marshall and Crowe were out in the middle and the score read 8/134. We were in strife but the patience of both Marshall and Crowe made the bowlers become impatient. The game was in the balance untill Bayswater Park slipped up bowling 4 wides in a row to make the game a tie. 8 balls later Crowe called for the quick single and that was it, Montrose had won and just played in a massive comeback. The second last over sore Crowe release some pressure with a MASSIVE 6, the ball travelled 96 metres. That ended the game for shore and Montrose claiming the points in a much needed win before the christmas break.

The 1st XI are now 6-1 !!!!!!!
Have a good Xmas and happy new year!

Round 9

2nd X1 vs Bayswater Park.

After finally getting all 11 players to Knox Park, the Montrose boys prepared themselves for a big game. A spot in the 4 was up for grabs. As has become a Montrose custom this year, we bowled first. Lowe and Grey got us off to a great start. Both bowled tight and each was rewarded with an early wicket. As the bowling changes continued, the wickets continued to fall. With intelligent bowling and excellent fielding (a much improved effort after last game) we bowled out Bayswater Park in 33 overs for just 97. The highlights being Gibsons 3/21 off 8 overs and that catch taken by Lowe. The batsman is still in shock!

After chasing down well over 200 last match, the boys were confident of a successful chase. However, after their opening bowler claimed 3 early wickets, 97 looked a long way off. Miff and Kieran Perkins looked solid against some very good Bayswater bowling. However, when both went out in quick succession the score was suddenly 5 for 40. The game was in the balance. Enter the left handers Gibbs and Bentley. After a cautious start the runs suddenly started to flow. 4 for 50, 4 for 60, 4 for 70. When Gibbs smashed three consecutive boundaries the target was getting closer and closer. A few more good overs and these two had seen Montrose through. An excellent partnership. GIBBS 28. BENTLEY 31*.

After a slow start Montrose is now sitting in the 4going in to Christmas! Up where we belong!
