As i turned up bright & early to 'Mooroolbark College', i was welcomed by 3 healsy bush people... Garfield, keiran, and Alan. As well as Laighton Blake, with a can in one hand & a dart in the other. The gates were locked and we could not get in, then 15m later some kid from warrandyte turned up & opened the gates.
As we got closer to the ground, we saw that it was not a ground; it was a jungle.. full of those yellow flower things. Anyway we lossed the toss & were sent in. TIM SWOBODA/ garfield opened the batting with K. Hulm.
As the first ball of the 09/10 season was about to be bowled, tim was facing on debut. Yep you guessed it OUT, GOLDEN DUCK!!!! At that point my heart sank.. :( :( i was so shattered, then Ben Nucifora came in to save the day, he hit a solid 41. K hulm followed tim, out on 3. Nuci and Dale 'PUP' Clarkson, made a good little partnership.. As Nuci's debut dream came to an end. At that stage pup was on about 35. As KP joined the scene, then soon after pup went out for 43. Then KP & Jack Garthwaite got the runs up. Soon after another good little parnership KP went out for 35. Jack smashed two sixes as i moved laighton above me
Laighto went out about the fourth ball, as I came in to face one/last ball (last ball of game, 45th over) me & jack had a talk then back to our spots. As the bowler came in i prepared myself, i hit a guided late cut, (a 'Kerian Perkins Special') we ran a single.
We ended up making 6/165.. if the grass was cut we probably would of made about 200, with the power behind nuci's bat..
Jack made about 25??? during the game i looked over my shoulder, up on the hill, sun shining on him.. Can you guess who it was??
Clues: Club Legend, Champion, Best captian & coach, All round good bloke, a little arrogent, bald, smart & funny, right hand gun, should of played for the vic's, played a few games with my old man, coached the outer east eagles, can smash me for six & can pick my wrongun, bald, best U16's coach to ever coach Montrose, barracks for north, looks like D. Leaman, bald, can teach anyone how to bat, bowls Knackers out every training session, made a few runs in the 2's on the weekend, bald & is a role model for all upcoming players.....
Guessed him yet?? It was the Great "Andrew Mirams'. Andy gave us a few tips, and a few good stories too. he came down to watch.. then left.
