Why are we not producing finger spinners.

Leg spin is alive and well but why are there no up and coming finger spinners.
Perhaps we should be trying to identify some juniors who want to try the craft and get some specialist coaching into them. Thoughts?

i do vaguely remember a left handed finger spinner. the only problem we had with him was that the ball was spinning when it left his fingers, but by the time it bounced it had stopped spinning. mind you there was many occasions when it didnt bounce. we never had  any complaints from the many keepers we have had ,apparently its easy to to keep to balls that go strait on.

Spot on Stormy, I actually modeled my right arm finger spinners on the club legend you talk about. Apparently they're no good..

Over one hundred batsmen found it hard to cope with nudies. The trick is to strike early before they work it out.

I agree we could definately do with some finger spinners in the ranks, good ones come in very handy. Are there any in the junior sides that we can get coaching for or do we have to start from scratch. Surely Knackers can't be the only one in the whole club bowling them!

spin is a great art, though sticking with it is a greater challenge. If its wrist spin or finger spin both are a pleasure to watch.

it's also an art to teach spin, and it to requires alot of patience.

There are alot of young players who take an interest into spinning the ball in our juniors.
'sticking with it' is the hardest part for young spinners, and support from team mates is vital.
As young juniors trying to land a spinning ball is obviously difficult, and so giving up is a common solution.

So as a club we should continue improving our current spinners, and also start focusing on up and coming junior spinners. (whether its finger or wrist)

MVK any time you feel you need help or just want someone to watch over your action just ask, same goes with all you other young spinners out there. I'm more than happy to pass on the little knowledge that I have learnt over the years & I'm sure The Bison & One Tonne are more than willing to do the same.

Appreciate it gregga, that'll be great even if we could just do a little bit of one on one stuff on Thursdays would be awsome..

Our club has alot of knowledge and potentially great coaches, we should make the most of them.. The experience from those you named and pretty much anyone at our club is enormous and we should all keep helping each other out..

Even dedicating some time at training for spinners to work closely with yourself jimmy and Howard, would be a great idea.

Mitch, Howard and Spin don't go in the same sentence!

I reckon the best Spin coaches at our club would be the Fat Porpoise and Matt Gardner.

Setting fields is also a key factor, Rod Sutherland and Smo are the men to see about such things.

Andrew ever heard of the phrase do as say not as I do. It is possible to teach something that you cant do. Perhaps not being able to spin it "a lot" and still taking wickets might mean that my fields and plans were correct!

A very good post Mitch some wise words from a young man. I will have a chat to Jim and Greg and see if we can organise a spinners session / sessions. Would like to get any kids who are trying spin in any of the junior grades to come along as well. I will speak to Brett and get some names. Perhaps we could chat about it at training next week.

Heard the phrase Howard, but I've always opted to just do want I want.. as a matter of interest, how many wickets have you taken?

Sorry Red Knob maybe I should of put young in bold letters so your old eyes could of seen that bit too, anyhow just in case you hadn't noticed running is not my strong point so I wouldn't be able to help you there. You should ask the real crowe I reckon he's the quickest at the club.

The Real Crowe (Josh's) three tips to running fast
1. Do not move your arms in any circumstance whatsoever
2. Do not stride out more than a metre unless absolutely necessary
3. Move your legs as fast you can

One tonne after reading all this post i still have a bit of a grey area in relation to your bowling that you can now clear up once and for all,did you ever spin one ball, be it through your fingers putting massive revs on the ball or the ball hitting an indiscriminate object on the pitch?

Yes Anthony there was one time over at Scoresby where I got one to drift into O'Briens leg stump and sharply spin away it was like the Gatting ball moment a magic moment only spoilt by him smashing it over cover for four. It was then that I thought spinning the thing was over rated. Much more effective to nude up.

The Real Crowe just looks quick. I'd back the Red Haired Crowe to win a match race..

The Fat leg spinners don't need or want to be involved in this, but I'm very interested in the race of the Crowes!
